A lot of people get confused in choosing the right treatment for the flea issue on their pet. For the most effective result, you should also consider giving your dog or cat an oral treatment, in order to kill the adult fleas on your pet’s whole body as quickly as possible. As for the moment, Novartis Capstar is the most popular oral medication for flea issue on dogs and cats. However, you may have come across Sentry Capguard, and you are now not sure whether you should use Capstar or Capguard. Here, we will explain to you whether you should choose Capstar or Capguard.

Capstar Vs Sentry Capguard

Perhaps we should start by comparing the active ingredients of these oral treatments. Quite interestingly, Novartis Capstar and Sentry Capguard use the same active ingredient with the same amount. Each of the two is available in two variants: for dogs and cats between 2 and 25 lbs, and for dogs over 25 lbs. Both Novartis Capstar and Sentry Capguard feature nitenpyram as the active ingredient. Nitenpyram is a chemical substance belonging to the chemical class of neonicotinoids. Nitenpyram is able to affect the nervous system of adult fleas, damaging it and effectively killing the insects. No need to worry because the chemical substance will not cause the harmful effect to your pet. Both Novartis Capstar and Sentry Capguard use 11.4 mg and 57.0 mg of nitenpyram for each variant.

Keep in mind that these treatments are only allowed for dogs and cats with at least 4 weeks of age and at least 2 pounds of body weight. A single dose should be enough for a day, though two pills in a day are still safe. A single dose often is enough to kill all the fleas, but you can give another dose the next day if there are still some fleas on your pet. If you have several pets in your home, you need to treat all pets because if you only treat one, then the fleas can reproduce on the untreated pets.

As Novartis Capstar and Sentry Capguard contain exactly the same thing, no wonder that they have the same effectiveness. They can start working within 30 minutes, and start to kill over than 90% of the fleas within 4 hours for dogs, 6 hours for cats. The effect will only last for a day.
